About the Event

If you've ever seen yourself in Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Bridgerton, etc. Training in high text is a must!!

What is high text?

Many modern actors may not know, but what we refer to as "elevated" or "high" text, is simply a reference the level of writing that began over 400 years ago with wordsmiths such as Shakespeare or Homer and continues today through writers like Aaron Sorkin.

Why is high text important?

Firstly, it is the pattern and style from which all of modern writing is derived. If you can analyze high text, you can analyze any script placed in front of you. Secondly, it is the true test of an actor, if you can act Shakespeare, you can act anything.

In this one day workshop, you'll just begin to scratch the surface of what it means to work material at this level.

Due to the complex nature of high text, it is an invaluable learning tool to help develop an actors skills including; voice, movement, acting, and the ability to translate text. Due to the density of the language, it also improves an actors understanding of breath control, dexterity of the mouth and the ability to annunciate. The need to be able to philosophically evaluate what you are performing is vitally important in any text, so to be able to analyse and portray the complexity of this style of work, helps students when evaluating more contemporary pieces. It is also a NECESSITY for tackling any period work or genre work such as fantasy or sci-fi.
